  • Ichicoro Ramen – 5229 N Florida Ave Tampa, FL 33603
  • Cuisine: Japanese, Asian
  • Price Range: $$

Our first stop on the “Tiffany Eats Tampa” train takes us to Ichicoro Ramen. If when you hear the word “ramen” you think of “Cup of Noodles” then you NEED to check this place out- for your mind will be BLOWN. Ichicoro makes everything from scratch, from their noodles, to their homemade broths. You can taste the freshness in the ingredients.

Before I get ahead of myself, let me start with the vibe of this place. The word “hipster chic” comes to mind. Don’t let that turn you off- it’s a very cool, laid back atmosphere with a warm cozy feel. My ONLY complaint was that the tables are very close together(take that with a grain of salt as I suffer from self diagnosed social anxiety with a hint of germaphobia) but the food made up for that.

Top: Smoked Brisket Steam Bun: pickles, kimuchi-mustard, gochujang sauerkraut; Bottom: Karaage: marinated fried chicken, furikake, spicy garlic sauce.

The hubby and I (side note: I will frequently refer to my husband in this blog as Chris, my hubby, the hubs, my lovechunk, etc.) decided to start off with some appetizers. We went with some steam buns and something called “karaage”- for some reason we were expecting that to also be on a steam bun so when it came we were like “oohhh okay” (sad face) BUT we were pleasantly surprised at how good both dishes were! Both delivered great taste and was a fabulous way to start off the meal. Now it’s time for the main course…

Spicy Kimuchi: shio tare, pork broth, applewood smoked bacon, mayu, ontama, bean sprout, chicharrones
Ichi1
Shoyu: chicken broth, chasyu asado, ajitama, menma, scallion, nori

See? I told you this ain’t yo mama’s “Cup of Noodles” ramen!

Now, let me preface this by saying that my lovechunk was in the U.S. Navy and while he was on deployment he went to Japan and had real ramen- so he is a bit of a “ramen snob” if you will. Before I tried mine I waited for my picky princess to try his to see his reaction. He took 1 gulp of the broth, closed his eyes, and nodded his head- I knew we had a winner!

I tried mine and started doing what I do whenever I taste something SUPER FRICKIN’ DELICIOSO ( I also speak Spanish when i’m excited, you will learn more about my quirks as you keep reading)- I do my happy dance- you know you do it too! The thing you do when you take a bite and you sit in your chair and shake your butt and wave your hands around- don’t lie, you do it too (and if you don’t, don’t judge! #judgementfreezone) The dishes were so incredibly flavorful- you could truly taste the depths of flavors in each sip/bite.

Bottom line: this place is Tiffany Approved 🙂 Go check it out, you won’t be sorry!

xoxo,

Tiffany
